Designed and built by Robert Sorby of Sheffield, the Patriot Chuck has been created to provide woodturners with a high quality chuck system that is both comprehensive and affordable.

With the generous movement of the Patriot's jaw slides and a well designed and comprehensive range of workholding jaws available, the Patriot is renowned as the premier system available to woodturners.

Robert Sorby offer a huge range of spindle thread adaptors allowing the Patriot to be fitted to virtually any commercially available lathe. This offers the added advantage that should you change your lathe in future, the chuck need not be scrapped - simply order a new adaptor to suit the new lathe!
Even larger threaded spindles (such as M33 x 3.5 mm and 1.1/2" x 6 tpi) that normally require the chuck to be directly-threaded on can be accommodated. Special Excerts are available that hold the chuck forward of the lathe spindle, the thread being formed in a boss at the end of the chuck.

This version of the Patriot is supplied to fit a M33 x 3.5mm spindle and will fit WivaMac, Hegner, VicMarc and other large lathes.

This standard version of the Patriot features 2" Jaws. [The measurement referring to the nominal size of spigot onto which they will compress when set at their "perfect circle" diameter]
Jaw sets are available in other sizes to accommodate projects for which the supplied jaws may not be suitable.

These standard jaws will expand into a dovetail recess sized from 50 mm (2") to 75 mm (3"). In compression mode, these jaws will close onto a spigot, or bowl "foot", with a diameter from 42 mm (1.33") to 67 mm (2.33").

The Patriot chuck is also delivered with a woodscrew chuck which mounts in the centre of the standard jaws and provides an excellent method of initial holding of the workpiece simply by drilling a pilot hole of approximately 10mm in it.
