Veritas - Low Angle Jack Plane
Product Reference: [ BMC 701920 ]
An ideal plane for shooting mitres, working end grain and initial smoothing - especially on timbers with difficult or interlocked grains.
The body is machined from stress-relieved ductile cast iron and the 15" x 2 3/4" sole is perfectly flat. The adjustable mouth can easily be set by the front locking knob. It can be set down to a narrow slit for the finest of shavings, or opened out for heavier work.
The blade is bedded at 12° and bevelled at 25° yielding an effective cutting angle of 37° - an excellent set for minimizing fibre tearing. The blade is 2 1/4" wide and 3/16" thick A2 tool steel, lapped flat on the non-bevl side to a tolerance of 0.0002" or better.
Replacement blades are available in either A2 or O1 tool steel, with 25°, 38° or 50° bevel. A 38° bevel toothed blade is also available in A2 tool steel. This last version is particularly useful for working interlocked grain and knots.
[Cutting angle stated describes the actual cutting angle where blade meets wood and is determined by a micro-bevel at the cutting edge; the blade's primary angle is typically a few degrees less.]
