Everbuild and Sika - 906 Bitumen Roof Emulsion

Product Reference: [ 906 ]

Product Description
BLACK JACK BITUMEN ROOFING EMULSION is a stable bitumen/water emulsion of medium brushing consistency. It is dark brown in colour and dries to a black, flexible coating, which is odour and taint free. It is specifically designed for overcoating leaking roofs.

Benefits
• May be applied to damp surfaces.
• Non flammable - water/bitumen emulsion.
• Water clean up.

Areas For Use
BITUMEN ROOFING EMULSION is commonly used in the following areas:

• General Waterproofing: - for use on concrete, fibre/cement, roofing felt, mastic asphalt, corrugated iron, slates, tiles, lead copper and zinc.
• Metal Protection: - Provides protection against corrosion of pipes, structural steelwork and other metallic equipment.
• Insulation: - Provides a vapour barrier for cold storage rooms, mushroom houses and similar installations.

Limitations
• Do not apply when rain is imminent
• Protect from rain and frost until cured (The coating may be assumed to be dry when rubbing with a wet finger does not produce a brown stain).
• Do not use in areas where subsequent solvent contact is likely..
• Allow sufficient drying time between coats.
• Stir well before use.
• The product may bleed through any paints subsequently applied over it. Apply a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer before overpainting.

Surface Preparation
No roof-coating product can be expected to repair an existing roof, which is not structurally sound and stable. Before using a surface coating the roof structure should be inspected and, if necessary, put in order. All cracked, broken, slipped or missing slates, tiles, sheets or other forms of covering should be replaced or re-fixed and cracks in felt or asphalt filled. (Safety Recommendation: do not coat roof lights, windows, glass or translucent sheets. These will constitute a hidden hazard if disguised).

Preparation of the surface is of great importance and will influence the degree of adhesion and life of the renovation. All roof surfaces to be coated should be sound, stable, clean, i.e. free from loose debris, dirt, dust and grease. All traces of algae and fungi growth should be removed using a stiff-bristled brush. Where algae and fungi have been present, remove them completely and treat the surface with EVERBUILD FUNGICIDAL WASH to kill any remaining spores, thereby discouraging the return of the growths.

Prime with BLACK JACK BITUMEN AND FLASHING PRIMER and allow to dry.

Application
Stir well before use.
Apply by brush in a minimum of 2 coats at a rate of ¾ of a litre per square meter. Apply coats at right angles to each other allowing 24 hours between coats. BLACK JACK BITUMEN ROOFING EMULSION may be applied to damp surfaces although coating and surface must be able to dry before the emulsion will cure to a waterproof film. For maximum strength, durability and flexibility, the second coat can be reinforced with an open woven glass fibre membrane.

In order to prolong the effective life of the dried coating, it is recommended that it be overcoated with BLACK JACK SOLAR REFLECTIVE PAINT

CLEANING TOOLS.

Clean tools immediately after use with water. Once cured, dried product can be removed with Kerosene (paraffin) or white spirits.
